Delrin POM Balls – Acetal Plastic Balls for Low-Friction Valves, Bearings and Sliding Components
Delrin POM Balls, also known as acetal plastic balls or polyoxymethylene balls, are lightweight engineering plastic balls designed for low friction, good wear resistance, dimensional stability, and electrical insulation. They are commonly used as alternatives to metal balls in light safety valves, low-load bearings, spray agitators, furniture sliding rails, fluid flow checkers, specialized pumps and valves, and electrically sensitive assemblies.
SDBALLS supplies POM balls in natural white and customized colors, with common diameters from 1.5 mm to 160 mm and precision grades I, II and III. Compared with nylon balls, POM balls generally offer lower moisture absorption and better dimensional stability. Compared with metal balls, they are lighter, non-magnetic, corrosion-resistant in many compatible media, and suitable for dry-running or self-lubricating low-load applications.

Descripción general del producto
Delrin POM Balls are precision plastic balls made from polyoxymethylene (POM), a semi-crystalline engineering thermoplastic known for its balance of mechanical strength, low friction, wear resistance and dimensional stability. In industrial ball applications, POM is often selected when designers need a lightweight, non-magnetic and electrically insulating ball that can run smoothly in low-load mechanical or fluid-control systems.
Unlike steel balls, POM balls do not provide high bearing fatigue strength or high-temperature metallic performance. Their value is different: they reduce weight, avoid metal-to-metal noise, resist many oils and fuels, and can operate with low friction in dry or lightly lubricated assemblies. This makes them practical for valves, flow-control devices, sliding rails, low-load bearings, pumps, spray systems and instruments where corrosion, electrical insulation or weight reduction matters.
Material Selection & Technical Positioning
POM is frequently compared with nylon, polyethylene, acrylic, PTFE and metal balls. The correct selection depends on working temperature, load, chemical exposure, dimensional tolerance and whether electrical insulation is required.
- Choose POM balls when low friction, low moisture absorption, dimensional stability and wear resistance are required.
- Choose nylon balls when toughness and impact resistance are more important, and some moisture absorption can be accepted.
- Choose HDPE or PP balls when very low density or broad chemical resistance in lighter-duty use is the main requirement.
- Choose PTFE balls when very low friction and stronger chemical resistance are required, but mechanical stiffness is lower.
- Choose stainless steel, chrome steel or ceramic balls when higher load, higher temperature, precision bearing performance or very high hardness is required.

Chemical Resistance & Application Limits
POM balls provide useful resistance to many oils, greases, petroleum products, fuels, aliphatic hydrocarbons, weak alcohols and many neutral aqueous solutions. This makes them suitable for many valve, pump, flow-control and mechanical applications where metal corrosion or electrical conductivity is undesirable.
POM is not universal chemical-resistant plastic. It is generally not recommended for strong acids, strong alkalis, oxidizing agents, strong chlorinating media, hot water/steam exposure, or long-term outdoor UV exposure without technical confirmation. For aggressive chemical environments, PTFE, certain ceramics, stainless steel, glass or other plastic materials may be more appropriate.
Applications & Application Fit

Manufacturing & Process Control
SDBALLS controls POM ball supply through resin selection, forming or machining process confirmation, sizing, finishing, cleaning, inspection and packing. For plastic balls, process control focuses on dimensional consistency, roundness, smooth surface, color consistency, burr control and material traceability when required.
For OEM projects, the production method and tolerance level should be matched with the application. Small precision components, valve balls and flow-control balls may require stricter diameter and surface control, while large general-purpose plastic balls may use a more economical tolerance class.
Quality Control & Inspection
- Diameter and tolerance inspection according to the agreed grade.
- Roundness and surface appearance inspection for burrs, scratches, flash marks and contamination.
- Material confirmation according to resin grade, color and purchase order requirement.
- Hardness or material property confirmation when specified by the buyer.
- Application-based checks for valve seating, flow behavior, low-friction movement or assembly fit when samples are provided.
- Support for inspection reports, RoHS / REACH requests, third-party testing and customized labeling when required for OEM projects.
Packing Options
POM balls can be packed in plastic bags, cartons, pails, drums or palletized export cartons depending on diameter, quantity and customer handling requirements. For clean applications, SDBALLS can discuss improved cleaning, sealed inner bags, batch labels and customized OEM packing.
- Bulk bag or carton packing for general industrial use.

Technical FAQ
P: ¿De qué material están hechas las bolas de pompones de Delrin?
A: They are made from POM, also called polyoxymethylene or acetal. Delrin is a common commercial name for acetal homopolymer material. If a drawing requires a specific resin grade, the grade should be confirmed before quotation.
Q: Are POM balls the same as nylon balls?
A: No. Both are engineering plastic balls, but POM generally has lower moisture absorption, better dimensional stability and low-friction performance. Nylon often offers good toughness and impact resistance but can absorb more moisture.
Q: What sizes and grades can SDBALLS supply?
A: Common diameters are from 1.5 mm to 160 mm, with precision grades I, II and III. Special sizes, colors and tolerance levels can be discussed according to quantity and application.
Q: What is the service temperature range for POM balls?
A: A practical reference range for POM ball applications is about -40 C to +85 C. Higher short-term exposure may be possible for selected grades, but it must be checked together with load, chemical contact and duration.
Q: Are Delrin POM Balls corrosion resistant?
A: They resist many oils, greases, petroleum products, fuels and neutral or weak chemical media. They are not recommended for strong acids, strong alkalis, oxidizing agents or aggressive chemical exposure without material confirmation.
Q: Can POM balls be used in food or medical equipment?
A: They may be suitable for some food-related or medical-adjacent equipment only when the resin grade, cleanliness, compliance documents and application conditions are confirmed. Do not assume every POM ball is food-contact or medical grade.
Q: Can POM balls replace steel balls?
A: They can replace steel balls in suitable low-load, low-friction, insulating or corrosion-sensitive applications. They should not be used as a direct replacement for steel balls in high-load, high-speed, high-temperature or fatigue-critical bearing applications.
Q: What information is needed before ordering?
A: Please provide material grade, diameter, tolerance or grade, color, application, working temperature, chemical exposure, quantity, packing, inspection documents and destination.
