AISI 201 is an austenitic stainless steel with chromium, manganese, nitrogen and reduced nickel. The material can provide an attractive polished appearance and useful strength at a controlled alloy cost.

It is best suited to indoor, mildly exposed and general industrial conditions where moderate corrosion resistance is sufficient. Material selection must consider moisture, chlorides, cleaning media, temperature, load, ball grade and expected service life.

Material Selection and Technical Positioning

  • Compared with AISI 304, AISI 201 is normally more economical but provides lower general corrosion resistance.
  • Compared with AISI 316/316L, AISI 201 is less suitable for marine, high-chloride and aggressive chemical environments.
  • Compared with AISI 420 or 440C, AISI 201 is not selected for through-hardened, high-wear bearing duty.
  • Cold working during ball production can increase magnetic response. Buyers must state a measurable magnetic requirement when magnetism affects the assembly.
